Additionally, a hybrid version of the current Murano has apparently been in production for some time now. And here I thought that Toyota’s RAV4 and Highlander Hybrids (as well as Subaru’s Crosstrek Hybrid) were the only new hybridized mainstream CUVs/SUVs on sale in the U.S.

I’d like to see more electrified mainstream CUVs/SUVs, honestly. Part- or full-time HEV, PHEV or full-EV.

I need to check my AutoBlog and stuff more. Never knew there was a Murano Hybrid, either. There was a Pathfinder Hybrid for a couple years that never sold.

The Murano hybrid just came out. Probably Nissan trying to repackage all of the leftover Pathfinder Hybrid drivetrains.

That Nissan FWD-based hybrid powertrain is rather oddball, too.

In the Murano (and Pathfinder), it’s a 2.5 supercharged I4, a clutch, an electric motor, a second clutch, and then a (traditional) CVT.

Looks like it’s a 2.0 I4 but otherwise the same idea in this.

I’d like to see this happen to all mainstream vehicles. You really shouldn’t have a gas engine running when you’re driving through town, it’s so wasteful. That’s why I love these. I get it, blah blah blah save the manuals...

I really want my next car (daily mind you, not my dream 2nd car) to be a PHEV or EV. I love the Chevy Volt (my dad has a 2015) and the Hyundai Ioniq is shaping up to be pretty nifty too.

Eh, I don’t mind not having hybrids of sporty cars (although I’d be interested in how a hybrid model of, say, a BRZ would turn out).

I’m frustrated that there aren’t more CUV/SUV hybrids on the road - I’d like to see more, even if it’s just stuff like a Chevrolet Trax eAssist. I wish my parents had been able to wait until now to pick up a new RAV4 Hybrid or Highlander Hybrid - I’d imagine that either would be better on gas than the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T that they bought.

I’ve been wondering whether cramming the Bolt EV’s powertrain into the Volt would result in a Volt EV that’s any good - the Bolt EV is slightly heavier, but the Volt is more aerodynamic to begin with.

Sometimes the hybridization doesn’t improve mileage enough to warrant spending thousands more. My mom bought a Subaru Crosstrek a few months ago and the hybrid version only gets marginally better city mileage and the same highway mileage (30/34) compared to (26/34) for the regular version. CUVs/SUVs have horrible aerodynamics, so this is probably why this is the case and with cheap gas, many companies don’t think hybrids are even necessary (cough cough FCA). Because of our thirst for SUVs/CUVs, we won’t hit the CAFE targets.

A Volt EV would be interesting, but the Bolt is arguably a more practical design, despite not being aerodynamic. If it’s range is as good as Chevy says it would be, a Volt EV would never happen.
